Kent Attwell on the Issues
For the past 19 years, Kent Attwell has had the honor of serving the citizens of Delafield's. He has a solid working knowledge of City government serving as Mayor the last 4 years, Alderperson in District 1 for the 3 years prior, 7 years on the Planning Commission and 15 years on the Lake Welfare Committee, including eleven years as Chairman. He has learned a lot about why residents choose to live in Delafield and what's important to them. Here's where he stands on some of the biggest issues:
- Public safety is Kent's highest priority; both our Police Department and Lake Country Fire and Rescue have his strong backing as they continue to deliver high quality services at a fair and reasonable cost to taxpayers.
- Delafield must maintain its semi-rural atmosphere and natural environment by smartly managing its existing resources in both developed and undeveloped areas of the city.
- Kent promises to work closely with staff and the city council to deliver fiscally responsible budgets to the citizens of Delafield.
- On land use and development, Kent believes we must encourage smart commercial and residential development based on 2021 tweaks recommended by citizens lead economic development and land use group to avoid renewal of citizen approved 2020 tax increase referendum which expires in 2025. - Maintaining our lakes and our parks protects the city’s tax base and helps to maintain and improve property values for all property owners in the city of Delafield.
- Developing separated safety walking paths and bicycle lanes that blend in with the semi-rural environment are a capital budget priority per our new 2021 city wide council approved plan Kent initiated in 2020.
- While the city currently has two public access points to Lake Nagawicka, Kent Attwell fully supports a 6 slip public boat pier access point developed in St. John's Park that can be utilized by lake users to access and support our downtown business.
- Kent has and will continue to support the $1,000,000 referendum cap.
- On Deer Management, Kent believes this is a safety concern that affects all areas of the city that needs reasonable city funding while partnering with our neighbors wherever possible to manage this population.
- The city needs to support its three school districts and be mindful of how their curriculum choices affect all our futures.
- Delafield's Library plays a important role in our community and Kent will strongly support that organization's mission and out reach programs within reasonable fiscal limits
Experience Makes a Difference
In addition to his public service for the City of Delafield, Kent Attwell's work experience is vital to how he serves the citizens of Delafield as Mayor. For the past 29 years, he has worked at SABIC, the third largest chemical producer in the world, and its previous owner General Electric Corp. As Senior Strategic Account Manager, he is involved in commercial management, overseeing budgets, managing global clients and taking care of customers.
While the biggest responsibility as Mayor is supporting our Police and Lake Country Fire and Rescue departments, the 2nd is to deliver a fiscally responsible annual city operating and capital budget. In his role at SABIC, Kent Attwell oversees annual budgets more than three times the size of the City of Delafield's. His performance and experience at SABIC and G.E., makes him uniquely qualified to address the city's budget concerns and for the citizens of Delafield to feel confident in his ability to deliver fiscally responsible spending.
